CBD Carrier Oil – What Is Carrier Oil & Why Is It Needed?

The bottle that you receive when you buy drops doesn’t just have CBD in it. The CBD is combined with another natural, organic substance called CBD Carrier Oil. This is done for a number of reasons; CBD after extraction is highly concentrated, so the oil helps dilute it. This dilution in turn then makes it easier for you to manage your dosage, makes it easier to ingest, and helps your body to break the CBD down and digest it.

There is a range of carrier oils, including coconut, sunflower, and olive, but the two most popular are hemp and MCT.

Hemp oil, also known as hemp seed oil, is one of the most common carrier choices since it is made from the same plant as CBD (CBD comes from the plant’s flower). It is slightly green and has a herby or nutty flavour.

Hemp oil has a range of potential health benefits. It contains the ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, the former being anti-inflammatory and the latter being good for your heart and body. It’s a good source of fibre, has high antioxidant levels (which is good for your heart and may help lower your risk of infections), and contains magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc, all of which are important for keeping healthy. It also helps to reduce sebum, excessive amounts of which is the main cause of acne.

MCT oil is most commonly extracted from coconut oil (but be aware of labels that just read “coconut oil” – this is not the same!), and is another popular carrier choice. The medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) present in the oil are a type of fatty acid that breaks down quickly, making it – and the CBD it carries – quicker for the body to absorb. This speed allows the body to absorb a higher percentage of CBD via this method than with other oils.

MCT oil is thin and almost flavourless and takes longer to go off than other oils. It also doesn’t need to be processed chemically, meaning it is often cheaper. However, it’s the quick and high concentration absorption that makes this choice a favourite of athletes.

Both options have their benefits, so we feel like the choice should be yours. That is why we are one of the only UK brands to offer you the option when it comes to buying your CBD oil.
